Show & Tell Tuesday

Show & Tell Tuesday

I have three quilts to share today.  I will start with the smallest and work up to the largest.

Falling Leaves

Falling Leaves is a small table topper that measures 13" X 19".  It is a
Snap Sack Small Quilt Kit.  The kit is available HERE.

It is made with HST and squares with borders.  It was extremely simple to make.

I made this little quilt in 2010.

Star Flowers

This sweet quilt, with flowers surrounded by interlocking stars, looks difficult to make, but it is really very easy to construct.

The pattern can be found on page 38 of the book:

by Darlene Zimmerman.  This book is available on Amazon

I made my version in 2008.

Star Flowers finishes at 25" X 31".  I love the scalloped border.

Will You Marry Me?

Will You Marry Me? is the traditional double wedding ring pattern that I made in 2008.  It is notoriously considered a difficult pattern because of all the curved piecing.

I used the Omnigrid Rotary Cutting Templates by Sharlene Jorgenson.

This specific quilt was made with seamless arcs...a pattern found on page 6 of the book that comes with the templates.

I used some decorative stitches found on my machine to "jazz" up this traditional pattern.

This quilt measures 45" by 56".

I hope you enjoyed these three quilts.  I am proud to have them in my collection.

Until Next Time.....Happy Stitching!!!

Make-A-List Monday

This has been a crazy week.  It is a perfect example of life getting in the way of living.

I had A Lot of Ryder time this week which was wonderful.

I also had to go out of town rather unexpectedly which threw my week into a tailspin.

My DH's baseball team made it to the Mercer County Championship game at Waterfront Park

Here he is coaching third base.  Unfortunately the team lost but they had a great run in the tournament.

This game, combined with all the extra Ryder Time and making a whirlwind trip to Florida, made finishing anything on my list very difficult.

Most things on my list will be carried over to next week.

C'est la vie

The Week of May 13, 2013
(in review)

1.  Work on a few Dear Jane blocks.

I did not get to work on any DJ blocks.

2.  Continue to work on Part 6 of Roll Roll Cotton Boll.

I have finished 20 of the 120 strips needed for step 6.

3.  Complete the most recent Byrne $5 quilt block and attend the class.

Because of my trip to Florida I was unable to complete the block or attend the class at Byrne Sewing Connection.

4.  Continue working on three BRODY Projects.

NO progress.

5.  Finish the hexies not completed last week and add 21 more hexies to my Bonnie Hunter inspired Christmas Hexagon quilt.

This is one project that I was able to work on.  Working on Hexies is a great airport/airplane project.

700 Hexies

721 Hexies

6.  Write some Show & Tell Tuesday blog posts for the future.

I did not get to this.

7.  Cut up some more Goodwill shirts into usable quilting fabric.

No shirts were de-boned this week.

8.  Spend three days with little Ryder.

Here is Ryder saying his prayers (sort of).

Here he is with his Granddad.

9.  Work on a few Just Takes 2 blocks.

No Just Takes 2 blocks were completed this week.

10.  Start to assemble the blocks from the Building Blocks BOM from The Village Quilter, that I finished in February.

I didn't even open the box of completed blocks.  Oh well, they aren't going anywhere.

By the looks of the week coming up, I probably won't get much done this week either.  Oh well, sometimes there are much more important things than quilting.

The Week of May 20, 2013

1.  Spend Three Days with my DGS Ryder.

2.  Attend Strip Club at The Village Quilter in Mt. Holly, NJ.

Show & Tell Tuesday

Show & Tell Tuesday

I have two very different quilts to share today.  I hope you enjoy looking at them.

American Heritage

I made American Heritage in 2010.

It is a pattern designed by Bits 'n Pieces quilt shop in Wayne, Michigan.  The original pattern looked like this:

I chose not to applique "1776" and "2006" in the center block.

It was made as a Block of the Month but I cannot remember the quilt shop through which it was offered.

It is technically eight small wall quilts sewn together to make a bed sized quilt.  It measures 89" X 104".  I pieced the backing from 10 1/2" squares.

Klassic Kaleidoscope

I made Klassic Kaleidoscope in 2009 from a pattern in the book
Kaleidoscope the Smart Way by Sharon Sebrow.  It is available through Amazon.

To make this quilt I needed to use a special ruler called

The Kaleidoscope Smart-Plate was a great aid to make a quilt block I have long admired.  This block is so versatile as it can be combined with other blocks to make some beautiful quilts.

The pattern for the quilt I made is called "Classic Blue and White" and it can be found on page 58 of the book.

I renamed my quilt Klassic Kaleidoscope because I used different colors.  My finished quilt measures 42" X 54".

Until Next Time.....Happy Stitching!!!

Make-A-List Monday

The Week of May 6, 2013
(in review)

1. Attend Quilts for Kids workshop at Pennington Quilt Works.

Our workshop was very productive.  I turned in my quilt and I was able to finish the top for a wonky 9-patch quilt.  I will quilt it before the next workshop.

2. Spend two days with Ryder.

It was wonderful spending time with my little guy this past week.  I actually got to spend one more day with him...Mother's Day.

This is the little guy after his first haircut with his dad, my oldest son, Kyle.

 Love the gel!!

3. Attend Saturday Sampler at Pennington Quilt Works.

There were four choices in colorways for this year's Saturday Sampler.

Every year that I participate in the PQW Saturday Sampler I sign up for one  colorway and then I add another when I see the finished quilts.  This is the first year I did not do that.  It's not that I don't like all of the quilts...they are gorgeous.

It's just that I have so much going on right now that I've decided to do just one.  I have decided to do the batik colorway...the one in the upper left corner.

4. Attend Ascension Thursday service at St. David the King Church.

Ascension Thursday service was beautiful.

5. Continue to work on labeling completed quilts so that they can be featured in future Show & Tell Tuesday posts.

All the quilts on these quilt racks have been labeled and photographed.  I still have another rack to do and a lot of quilts still in the "to be hand bound" pile.  These racks are on either side of our fireplace.

6. Cut up some more Goodwill shirts into usable quilting fabric.

I only got to de-bone one shirt this past week.

7. Make a play yard mattress pad and cover for a future sleepover with Ryder.

The play yard is ready for Ryder's sleepover tonight.

8. Continue to work on the following BRODY Projects:

Going Buggy
Lazy Sunday
Heather Spence Spring Mystery Quilt

I did a little bit of work on all three quilts.  None of them are done but I will work on them more this week during my BRODY Time.

9. Add 21 hexies to my Bonnie Hunter inspired Christmas Hexie Quilt.

I only finished 15 hexies.  I will update this photo when I add the other 6 hexies.

10. Add a binding to the 2009 Patchwork Party quilt I recently finished quilting on Annie.

The binding has been machine sewn on the quilt.  It has been added to my huge pile of quilts that need the binding hand sewn.

11. Order backing fabric for "All Hand Dyes Go Together."

My original thought was to get a solid black backing for this quilt.  After much thought I decided to order a cherry red background with little bits of black added.  Honestly, I was a little afraid of the lint magnet that black can be.

12. Work on part 6 of Roll Roll Cotton Boll.

Step 6 calls for taking the 600 HST made earlier and sewing them into 120 strips of five HST each.  I'm not quite done with this step but I was able to make a little progress.

The Week of May 13, 2013

Show & Tell Tuesday

Show & Tell Tuesday

It has been a VERY long time since I've done a "Show & Tell" post. I have recently been able to organize my quilts so now I know which ones I still want to talk about.

The quilts I am showing today have been displayed on the Quilty Pleasures Quilts page for a while but now I want to elaborate on them.

My First Quilt

I remember it like it was yesterday; that summer day in 2007 when my DH encouraged me to take my first quilt class.  We entered the
Stony Brook Sew and Vac Store then located in Hamilton, NJ.
At his urging I signed up for a beginning quilting class with Pat O'Brien and set about choosing my fabric.  I remember with amusement how I fretted over that fabric choice.  The pattern was the simple nine-patch shown above but you would think I was buying fabric for a king-sized quilt to be displayed at Peducah.

It took me five weekly classes to learn the basics of quilt making and I have not looked back.  Although I don't think Pat teaches quilt classes anymore, I think of her often when I am quilting and thank her for helping me fall in love with this beautiful art.

This quilt measures 37" by 47".  I used 5 different fabrics and started my STASH with the leftovers.  I made a few other quilts from this pattern before I was ready to venture out and try another one...again with Pat O'Brien leading the way.

April Rag Quilt

This is another of my monthly rag quilts on which I have been working.

It measures 20" X 20".  I have now finished rag quilts for January through June.  I've gathered my homespun fabric for July but I don't have plans in the near future to work on that quilt.

Well, that is my first Show & Tell post since September 2012.  I hope to share my finished quilts on Quilty Pleasures more often now that I have a more organized plan.

Until Next Time.....Happy Stitching!!!

Make-A-List Monday

The Week of April 29, 2013
(in review)

Although I did not have anything specific on "My List" this past week, I was able to get a lot of things done.

1.  Finish a quilt for Quilts for Kids.

2.  Cut up some Goodwill shirts for fabric.

Four 100% cotton shirts have now been turned into quilting fabric.  :)

I still have quite a few shirts to "de-bone" but it was nice to get a few done.

3.  Sort, fluff, label and prepare Show & Tell blog posts for 8 completed quilts.

I was able to go through two of my quilt racks and fluff the quilts in the dryer to remove creases from folding.  Then I pulled out eight quilts that still need labels, and labeled them.  Next I photographed many of the quilts for future Show & Tell Tuesday blog posts.

While working on these quilt racks I realized that there are still quite a few quilts that need labels.  This will be an ongoing project over the next few weeks.

4.  Take the 12 appliqued blocks my DMIL gave me and set them with sashing and borders.

This quilt top has been added to my Git-R-Done page.

5.  Prepare a few Foodie Friday posts.

6.  Organize Pantry.

7.  Prepare menus and shopping lists for the next few months.

8.  Finish quilting the 2009 Patchwork Party Quilt that is currently on Annie.

9.  Spend two days with Ryder.

Life is sure a lot more interesting now that he has been walking for almost a month.  Ryder will be 11 months old in a few days!

I know it doesn't look like I accomplished much this week but I do feel as if I did.  This week helped me to realize that although "My List" can help me stay on task and accomplish a lot, sometimes it makes my quilting feel less than pleasurable.  In a way I felt as if I was on vacation this week.  I'm sure that sounds crazy but that is how I felt all week.  There was nothing I had to do, whether it was self-imposed or not.

I'm going to continue my "Make-A-List Mondays" but I plan on having a different attitude about them.  I have been known to fret over not getting everything done on my list.  From now on I am just going to consider it an outline for the projects that I might get to in the following week.  I will try to work on one project at a time instead of working on five things at once.  I am anxious to see if this new attitude makes a difference in the upcoming week.

The Week of May 6, 2013

1.  Spend two days with Ryder.

2.  Attend Quilts for Kids workshop at Pennington Quilt Works.

3.  Attend Saturday Sampler at Pennington Quilt Works.

4.  Attend Ascension Thursday services at St. David the King Church.

5.  Continue to work on labeling completed quilts so that they can be featured in future Show & Tell Tuesday posts.

6.  Cut up some more Goodwill shirts into usable quilting fabric.

7.  Make a play yard mattress pad and cover for a future sleepover with Ryder.

8.  Continue to work on the following BRODY Projects:

Going Buggy
Lazy Sunday
Heather Spence Spring Mystery Quilt

9.  Add 21 hexies to my Bonnie Hunter inspired Christmas Hexie Quilt.

10.  Add a binding to the 2009 Patchwork Party quilt I recently finished quilting on Annie.

11.  Order backing fabric for "All Hand Dyes Go Together."

12.  Work on part 6 of Roll Roll Cotton Boll.

I am POSITIVE I will not get to all of these things.  Next week I will report on what I did get done.  Even if I only do one thing it will be a good week.

Until Next Time.....Happy Stitching!!!
