Show & Tell Tuesday

Show & Tell Tuesday

I have two quilts to share today.  I hope you enjoy them.

Tiny Chicklets

In 2007 I found myself with one week at home all by myself.  All of my family was away and it was spring break so I did not have to teach.

I wondered how I was going to fill my time until I started going through the Joanne's sale flyer.  They had fat quarters on sale for $.99 so I decided to take a ride.

At the time I had no idea what a fat quarter was but I knew it was fabric and it was only $.99!!

I decided to "stock up" and I purchased 10 FQ's and a ruler.

When I got home I took out my pretty FQ's and I started tracing squares and cutting them out with scissors.  I had no idea what a rotary cutter was.  I also thought that the squares on the outside of the quilt needed to be cut a different size then the inside squares.  Ugh.

Okay...It gets better.  I also sewed all my squares together with a 5/8th inch seam.  After all, that is the size seam we used in garment construction and that is really all I knew about sewing.

Somehow I muddled through and I ended up with a quilt top.  I folded it up and put it on a shelf for a few years.

Later that same year I discovered Stony Brook Sew & Vac and I met Pat O'Brien, my first quilt teacher.  I've learned so much since spring break, 2007, but I will always cherish my first quilt.

.

I decided to name my quilt Tiny Chicklets because it reminded me of the Tiny Chiclets I ate as a kid.  I now realize I spelled "chiclets" wrong.  I guess that is fitting considering all the mistakes made with this quilt.

When I eventually got my long arm quilting machine, Annie, I pulled this quilt top off the shelf, added a few borders and quilted it.  I love this very simple quilt, filled with mistakes, but a treasure none the less.

Queen's Jewels

Queen's Jewels is a pattern found in the book Big Book of Scrap Quilts compiled and edited by L. Amanda Owens and Patricia Wilens.

This was one of the first quilts I made in 2008.  (A long way from Tiny Chicklets, don't you think?)

The finished quilt measures 62" X 78" and it was designed by Winnie Fleming of Friendswood, Texas.  The historic name of the block in this quilt is Night and Day.

I hope you enjoyed these two quilts.

Until Next Time.....Happy Stitching!!!

Make-A-List Monday

Just a Reminder...

The Blog Hop Party with Give-Aways sponsored by The Quilting Gallery is winding down.

Tomorrow is the last day for a chance to win these two charm packs:

Check out my blog post HERE for instructions for entering the give-away.  Tuesday, 11/26/2013, is the last day to enter.

Now, on to my list.....

The Week of November 18, 2013
(in review)

1.  Make 18 labels for quilts that need them and then prepare Show & Tell Tuesday posts for these quilts.

This was a large endeavor but I was able to finish all labels.  I've prepared a few Show & Tell Tuesday posts that I will share over the next few weeks.

2.  Prepare Show & Tell Tuesday posts for a stack of quilts that have already been labeled.

All Show & Tell Tuesday posts for quilts previously labeled are complete.  I will share them over the next few weeks.

3.  Cut up a bag of scraps I've accumulated over the last few weeks.

I did not get to cut up my bag of scraps; in fact, I've only added to the bag.  Hopefully I will get to it this week.

4.  Add a binding and label to "Back in Time," the quilt I recently finished quilting on Annie.

The binding and label have been added.  I can't share pictures because this is a Christmas gift.  I will share after Christmas.

5.   Work on a few more Wildflower Rhapsody blocks.

Two more Wildflower blocks done.  Sooooo pretty!

6.  Continue to work through my Flylady inspired Christmas Control Journal.

All of the Christmas grocery shopping that can possibly be done before Christmas is complete.  I will still need to do the perishables during Christmas week.

I also had time to make some presents and two batches of cookies...

oatmeal and gingersnap.

7.   Make some more Make It Snappy scarves.

A few more scarves are done but I still have some to sew.

I will definitely be busy, busy, busy this week.

Oh, dear...this poor table runner is still a pile of fabric in a bag.  Pretty sad when you can't find ten minutes in your busy day.

9.  Spend three days with my Ry Bear.

On one of our days together we went to the library again for a movement class with Mrs Amira.

I tried to get him to pose in front of the seasonal sign at the library but it became a game of run-away.  Oh, well!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving my dear little boy.  I will certainly miss you but I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with your Boston based family.

10.  Work on the following BRODY Projects:

Blue Dresden Plate Quilt
Four-Patch Stacked Posies...Small Print
Four-Patch Stacked Posies...Large Print
*Blue Palace
*Meadow - A Christmas Quilt
Jungle Fever
Civil War Tribute
Aunt Josephine's Pride Mini Quilt
Two Flag of Valor Quilts

I worked on two BRODY projects this week.

Here are a few of the Blue Palace blocks that I finished this week.

I also finished these Meadow blocks.

No projects are done but I am starting to see a little progress on these projects.

11.  Work on the quilt currently loaded on Annie - Christmas Tree Skirt.

My Christmas tree skirt is quilted and ready to be bound.  I was also able to finish the quilting on my Christmas Tree Log Cabin Wall Hanging.

12.  Add some more hexies to my Bonnie Hunter inspired
 Christmas Hexie Quilt.

No progress...

13.  Work on the shawl I am crocheting for
the Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. David the King Church.

A little progress...

14.  Attend the Byrne $5 quilt workshop and go out to a birthday lunch with my friend, Chris.  (This birthday is lasting over a month!)

I attended both of these fun events.  While at Byrne for the $5 quilt workshop I dropped a bracelet that is very precious to me in the parking lot.

I didn't realize my loss until I was in the middle of the grocery store.  I had been to so many places that day, running errands.  I figured my beautiful bracelet was lost forever.

The next day, on the slight chance that someone had turned in the bracelet, I started to make a list of all the places I had visited the day before.  My first stop had been Byrne Sewing Connection in Doylestown, PA, so this was my first call.

I was shocked when the salesclerk told me someone had found my bracelet in the parking lot and turned it in to them.  I was thrilled and so thankful for the honest character of fellow quilters.  Quilters are definitely, as a group, wonderfully kind and generous.

15.  Attend Strip Club at The Village Quilter.

Strip club this month was a beautiful Christmas quilt.

This quilt is a free pattern that the shop owner emailed to me, but I have been unable to open the attachment.

My computer is acting up again.  I have tried everything to open the attachment without luck.  I'm sure this is a PICNIC issue...

                                                 Problem
                                                 I
                                                 Chair
                                                 Not
                                                 In
                                                 Computer

It is frustrating to be so computer illiterate!

So much to do...so little time.

Until Next Time.....Happy Stitching!!!
