Awesome Adventures - June 2016

AWESOME ADVENTURES - June 2016

Now that summer is almost over I'm hoping to be able to find time to write a few more blog posts.  We've been SOOOOO busy this summer, that writing anything for Quilty Pleasures has been the farthest thing from my mind.

Trying to combine my Quilting Adventures with my Family Adventures in one monthly post has proven to be a daunting task.  It has come time for me to separate the two

Awesome Adventures with Ryder & Logan will be a new page on Quilty Pleasures.

From time to time I will post some AWESOME pictures of my AWESOME grandchildren.

Did I mention that my grandchildren are AWESOME?

These may be pictures of adventures we've had together or adventures that their parents, Kyle and Heather, have shared with me.

I'm hoping that this will be sort of a "scrapbook" for us all to look back on as they grow older.  By posting these pictures here I will be able to free up Make-A-List Monday to be mostly about my
Quilty Adventures.

Ryder's End-of-Year Preschool celebration

Well, I think that catches up with some of the things we did in June.  There have been some pretty exciting things (IMHO) happening around our house that I hope to blog about in the near future.

Until Next Time...Happy Stitching!!!

Show & Tell Tuesday (Garden Stroll Rhapsody)

Show & Tell Tuesday

I was commissioned to make a quilt for my husband's co-worker.  I was given a color pallet and a size requirement.  I was free to design the pattern myself.  I found it creatively stimulating to design this quilt from beginning to end.

Garden Stroll Rhapsody

My first step was to put pencil to graph paper and design a quilt using the colors and size required.  This took a bit of time but I found the whole process to be fun and rewarding.

My next step was to go to my local quilt shop -
Pennington Quilt Works to choose the fabric I would use.

I started with the floral at the bottom of this first picture and then I picked the fabrics to compliment the floral fabric.

After my fabric was chosen and purchased I began cutting all the pieces I would need to make the quilt.

Block construction soon followed.  I could start to see my artistic vision come to fruition.

Once the blocks were constructed I put them all together following my original pattern.

This is a picture of the quilt top before quilting.

This is a closeup view of one of the unquilted corners.

The quilt top was loaded on my long-arm and I quilted it using an edge-to-edge design that complimented the pattern on the front of the quilt.  I used the same floral focus fabric as the backing fabric.

I am very proud of this original creation and I am thrilled that my husband's co-worker and his wife loved it as well.

Until Next Time.....Happy Stitching!!!

Show & Tell Tuesday (June Rag Quilt & Victory)

Show & Tell Tuesday

I have two quilts to share today.

Victory

I was inspired to make my Victory quilt by Eleanor Burns' Quilt in a Day book called Victory Quilts.

All the blocks for this quilt came from 1940's patterns.

I especially love the red and blue ribbon border.

I made this quilt in 2012 and it measures 63" X 78".  It fits perfectly on a twin bed.

June Rag Quilt

My June Rag Quilt is the sixth in this series.  It measures 24" square.

I made this mini quilt in 2012 and I use it as a table topper during the month of June.

I hope you enjoyed viewing these two quilts from my collection.

Until Next Time.....Happy Stitching!!!
