Where Flower's Bloom Blog Hop (Wildflower Rhapsody & Four-Patch Stacked Posies)

Where Flowers Bloom Blog Hop

Spring has finally sprung in central New Jersey...just a week before summer.  It was such a long winter here that I wasn't sure if we would ever see beautiful spring flowers.

But the flowers are blooming...

...and I thought it was a perfect time to share two flower-inspired quilts.

 Many thanks to Carla of
Creatin' in the Sticks for the

Wildflower Rhapsody

I fell in love with this quilt a few years ago.

The pattern was distributed by A Wing and A Prayer Designs.

I knew that it was the fabric that made this quilt as much as it was the pattern.  For this reason I purchased the kit so I could make the quilt exactly as the pattern.

There are twelve 10" blocks and four Dresden Plate corners.

The final measurements for this quilt is 94" x 107".  It looks nice on either a Queen or King bed.

I completed this quilt in 2014.  It is definitely one of my favorite quilts.

Four-Patch Stacked Posies

I discovered this quilt pattern when I was taking a class in Allentown, NJ at a quilt shop that is no longer in business.

This is the pattern.  It was designed by Mary Lou Hallenbeck and distributed by H. D. Designs

To make this quilt you only need one large print fabric and a few accent fabrics for the sashing, corner stones, and inner border.

The blocks are made by "stacking" the fabric repeats on top of each other, and then cutting through all layers.

After cutting through all four layers of fabric, the four identical squares are arranged for almost a kaleidoscope effect.

You will find as you do this, every block will be different.

I've made this quilt three times...that's how much I love this pattern.  All three quilts are very different because the large print fabric I started with was also so different.

My finished quilt is approximately 65" x 72" - perfect for a twin mattress.

This quilt was also completed in 2014.

I hope you have enjoyed these two floral quilts.  If you have time, please consider visiting

Until Next Time.....Happy Stitching!!!

  3. YOur quilts are beautiful. But I really loved your back story. I took my first few quilting classes in that quilt shop in Allentown in both of their locations there. I also drove through your town twice a day every day to go to work. My favorite part of commuting was driving through the farms in Cranbury and watching as the crops went from plantings to harvest. Thanks for bringing back all those happy memories with your quilting past.

  4. You know what I have a flower fabric that would be perfect in that pattern design and it looks relatively easy to make. Thanks for the idea.

  5. That second quilt is a version of One Block Wonder quilt, but in squares instead of hexagon or octagon and so much easier to sew I am sure. I have an idea of making one in squares too one day. Have done the hexagon one.

  7. Your Wind and a Prayer quilt is just gorgeous. Those fabrics are perfect. I've got the 4-Patch pattern and never done it. I guess I need to dust it off and give it a try.
I love these blog hops for inspiration, and you have done a great job of that! :-)

  8. I'm sorry that you had such a long winter. I'm afraid that we are going to have a nearly unbearable summer here in Oklahoma. In May we had typical late July temperatures. I am very heat sensitive and I have been wilting with the heat. It has been near and maybe over 100 degrees already. It is just awful - at least to me. I'm grateful for A/C and that I can afford - at least so far. I sit under a quilt in the house all the time. I have fibromyalgia where I feel like I have the flu all the time - my muscles hurt and I take lots of medication. The flowers are beautiful as are each of the quilts. I like the idea of stacking the fabric and cutting it to make a different design for each block. Each block is unique and beautiful. Great job! I hate to see the local quilt shops going out of business. My favorite one closed and I miss just knowing that it is not there.

  12. Gorgeous quilts! Wildflower Rhapsody is stunning. It is so big and detailed, that it must have mean a true labor of love to create. You did a beautiful job finishing it.

  13. I started a stack and whack this spring which sounds similar to this quilt as you stack 8 layers of fabric and then whack it into sections and sew it together resulting in a beautiful flower. I had to leave that project behind when I made my annual migration trek north but will return to it in November just in time to think of flowers again.
