The Week of April 8, 2013

(in review)

1.  Continue to work on the 100 blocks needed for the quilt

 "All Hand Dyes Go Together."  

All 100 blocks are now complete.  This project will now become a BRODY Project.

2.  Piece a batting for the next quilt to be loaded on Annie.

I find that I have sooooo many little pieces of batting left over after a project.  It is super simple to piece these batting scraps together to make a larger, more useful piece.

3.  Bind the quilt I just finished quilting on Annie - Pennington Quilt Works Saturday Sampler Home Colorway.

This is a very large quilt.  I think it is 95" X 95".  It will now be added to my pile of quilts that need their binding hand stitched.

4.  Add an inner and outer border to a BRODY Project called "Monticello" that can be found in this book:

Here is my quilt top ready to be added to the "Git-R-Done" list.

5.  Prepare for a mystery quilt to benefit cancer patients sponsored by Heather Spence.

I received the first clue and I have my fabric all ready.

I hope to get to work on the first clue sometime during the week.

6.  Prepare a project called "Going Buggy"  a quilt designed by 

Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Company

I did not have time to prepare this project.

7.  Work on Part 5 of Roll Roll Cotton Boll.

No time for Roll Roll Cotton Boll this past week.

8.  Add 21 Hexies to my Bonnie Hunter inspired Christmas Hexie Quilt.

10.  Start the 2013 NJ Shop Hop.

My friend Linda and I were able to visit 3 of the 8 shops this week.

The first shop we went to was Mouse Creek Quilts in Howell, NJ

Next we went to Forked River to visit Quilting Possibilities.

And finally we went to Fabric Inspirations in Manalapan, NJ.

I picked up my patterns and fabric packs at each of the shops.


The Week of April 15, 2013

1.  Work on the first clue of the Heather Spence Spring Mystery to benefit cancer patients.

2.  Work on Part 5 of Roll Roll Cotton Boll.

3.  Add 21 more hexies to my Bonnie Hunter inspired Christmas Hexie Quilt.

4.  Add borders to a BRODY Project called "In a Snap" which is made with a Moda Turnover and a Moda Honeybun.

5.  Prepare "Going Buggy" for a Brody Project.

6.  Work on "All Hand Dyes Go Together" as a BRODY Project.

7.  Try to find time to visit the other 5 NJ Shop Hop quilt stores.

8.  Spend a day with sweet Ryder.

9.  Attend Byrne Sewing Connection for the "2013 $5 Quilt" class.

10.  Go out to lunch with my Dear Aunt Kathy.

11.  Celebrate my two son's birthdays.  Kyle turns 30 on Thursday and JT turns 28 on Saturday.  We are going to AMC Dine-In Theatres in Menlo Park, NJ.  They want to see the movie 42.  

Another very busy week.  So much to do but it is all good.  I certainly can't complain.

Sunday Soup-athon

Butternut Squash & Baby Spinach Soup

• 2  T.            Butter
• 1/2 C.          Sweet Onion, chopped
• 2 cloves       Garlic, minced
• 4 1/2 C.        Butternut Squash, peeled and diced
• 2                 Large Carrots, diced ( about 1 C.)
• 6 C.             Chicken Broth
• 1/4 t.           Ground Cinnamon
• 1 Pkg.          Baby Spinach Leaves (6 oz) washed

1.  Heat the butter in a 6-quart sauce pan over medium-high heat.  Add the onion and cook until tender.  Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.  Stir in the squash and carrots.  Cook for 5 minutes.

2.  Stir in the broth and cinnamon.  Heat to a boil.  Cover and cook for 10 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.  

3.  Add the spinach and stir until the spinach wilts.  Season to taste.

Make-A-List Monday

WOW, what a long week this was!!  Maybe it was because I was so busy.  I was able to get a lot done on my list but I still did not finish everything.  This week is also very busy.  

So much to do and so little time...   =:)


The Week of April 1, 2013

(in review)

1.  Work on Part 4 of Roll Roll Cotton Boll.

I was able to finish all of Part 4.  

This is a picture of just some of my units.

2.  Work on a few more blocks for a black and white sampler quilt I started a few years ago.  

I started this quilt project so long ago I forgot how pretty these blocks are.  

These are the blocks I finished this week.

Each block measures 12 1/2 " unfinished.

3.  Attach a label to my little baby boy quilt.

Notice the helicopter theme.

4.  Work on the April block for the Byrne $5 quilt.

Block complete.

5.  Make a little progress on a UFO I started a while ago called 

"All Hand Dyes Go Together."

This is what the quilt will look like when it is done:

I've chosen to not use hand-dyed fabric.  I'm using my stash instead.

Here are 8 of my 18 finished blocks.  I need to make 100 all together.

I've finished all of the 9-patches and HST.  Now I just have to sew them all together.

6.  Work on the April Block for my paper-pieced heart Sampler.

I did not get to this project.

7.  Add 21 hexies to my hexie quilt.

8.  Spend two days with Sir Ryder.

9.  Watch the New York Mets play their opening day game and all other games they have scheduled this week.

The Mets had a great opening week.  They won both series against the Padres and the Marlins.

10.  Attend my Quilts for Kids workshop at Pennington Quilt Works.

I was able to get most of my top done.

11.  Attend the baby shower of my good friend and present her with the quilt I made for her soon-to-be-born baby boy.  

The shower was this weekend so I can finally share the Little Baby Boy quilt I have been working on for my friend Heather.  Heather and her husband Danny are expecting their first baby in May.  Danny is a helicopter pilot in the Coast Guard so the helicopter theme was quite evident at the shower.

Everyone brought a book to get the baby's library started.

There were presents galore!

The bartender was very friendly!

The food was delicious!!

My daughter Shea and her roommates Lauren and Maureen had a great time.

The expectant mommy, Heather (on the left) was happy, healthy and glowing!!

Here she is with her sister, Alison.

It was wonderful to get together with friends for such a happy occasion.

I only have a few days at home this week so I'm not sure what I will get done.  

Our puppy, Brody, will be one year old in a couple of weeks.  I like to spend as much time with him as possible during the days when I'm at home. 

 I try to prepare a few projects that can be worked on while we spend time together.  Number 6 on my list above, "Going Buggy" is one of those projects.  "Monticello" and two recently completed quilt tops called "Winter Retreat" and "Taylor's Timeless Quilt" were also
BRODY Projects.  These are usually projects that I've had for a while but have never completed.  I find this is a great way to finally work on these projects and play with my puppy at the same time.

Make-A-List Monday

Our Big Announcement!

This has been a blessed Easter weekend for our family.  I am thrilled to be able to announce that my husband, Don, became a full member of our Catholic church at the Easter Vigil service.

This is a picture of our family after he was baptized, received first Eucharist and was confirmed.  My DDIL Heather and DGS Ryder were unable to attend because it was too late for Ryder.  My In-laws left at the end of the ceremony so were not available for pictures.  We kept this journey of faith as a surprise to our children.  We told them the news when we went out to dinner before the service.  My husband explained to them that they were his inspiration to become a full member of our church.  We are all so proud of him.

The Week of March 25, 2013

1.  Work on the March block for my paper-pieced heart sampler.

The March block is a cat...I'm not sure why.


2.  Work on the first clue of Bonnie Hunter's Quiltmaker Magazine mystery Lazy Sunday.

The first clue is done.  I can't wait for the May/June issue of Quiltmaker magazine for the next clue.

3.  Complete the binding for my Little Baby Boy quilt.

Binding is done.  The next step is to work on a label.  The shower is next weekend so I will post a picture next Monday if our Internet is working..

4.  Complete the March block for the Pieceful Nights Quilt Along at Jo's Country Junction.  

5.  Finish the last 10 string blocks for Roll Roll Cotton Boll.

Now, all 60 neutral string blocks are done.  

6.  Make a few more blocks for a black & white sampler quilt I started a few years ago.  

I did not get to complete this.

7.  Make a few more Dear Jane blocks.

I did not finish this either.  

8.  Attach the last 126 Hexies I have completed to the quilt center.

Here are all 595 hexies attached.  

9.  Spend a day with Little Ryder.

10.  Attend Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil services at

 St. David the King Church.

The Triduum was a wonderful experience for our family!!

I am happy to announce that my hubby finished the steps.

We have been dealing with a lot of Internet issues lately.  Sometimes I think there are monkeys running our cable company.  

If I miss a post on a Monday, please know it is an Internet problem and I will post as soon as our Internet is back online.
