String of Pearls
My String of Pearls quilt was designed by Christa Watson. The pattern is available HERE.
Each of the Pearl Blocks is made from one pearl "square" surrounded by a strong royal blue accent, floating against a sea of white.
Christa's quilt was made with Pearl Bracelets fabric but I chose to just use a fabric that reads as solid.
The quilt is made from a total of 36 blocks that are 11" finished.
The finished quilt measures 66" x 66" and was completed in 2014.
Jelly Beans
The Jelly Beans quilt pattern was written by Janine Burke in 2010. The pattern is available HERE.
This is what the designer has to say about the Jelly Beans quilt:
"Believed to have origins dating back to Biblical times in Istanbul. the jelly bean began as a confection called Turkish Delight, which had a soft, chewy center with a firm outer shell. The round jelly bean we know today has more recent roots from Jordan Almonds, dating back to the 17th century. Here in America, there are recordings of jelly beans being sent to Union Soldiers during the Civil War.
"In the 1900's, it is believed that jelly beans were one of, if not the first, penny candy items sold by weight, which we now refer to as bulk candy. The 1930's saw jelly beans become an Easter holiday tradition; the egg shape representing fertility and birth in a timely metaphor for spring and spiritual rebirth.
"Quick little blocks reminiscent of jelly beans inspired me to make this quilt. We hope you enjoy making these little delights as much as we do. Please visit us at Blue Underground Quilts to view our other confections."
This quilt was made from 25 batik fat quarters.
I completed my version of Jelly Beans in 2014. My finished quilt measures 78" x 78". I used an edge to edge quilt pattern to quilt Jelly Beans.
